Ambassador William (Bill) Todd retired from the U.S. State Department in 2021 after a distinguished 38-year career.  Most recently, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of a private equity portfolio company and founded a 501c3 charity, Cana’s Promise, with the goal of transforming the lives of the marginalized and disadvantaged.

When he retired from the State Department, he was the Deputy Under Secretary for Management and performed the duties of Chief Operating Officer of day-to-day global operations in over 270 U.S. diplomatic missions in 190 countries that impacted all 75,000 State Department employees while managing a budget of over $52 billion.

Bill was confirmed as U.S. Ambassador twice (Cambodia and Brunei) and served in an Ambassadorial rank position in Afghanistan.  During the last 20 years he has also held a number of other senior positions at the State Department, to include: Deputy Inspector General, Acting Director General of the Foreign Service, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.  

Throughout his career his leadership has placed him at the forefront of running operations in some of the most volatile and hostile places on earth, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Colombia.   He is highly decorated and has been recognized with numerous awards throughout his career for his strong operational, program, and management skills.
