Joe Dyer is a highly experienced executive, operator, and strategist. He was a Vice Admiral in the United Stated Navy and, presently, is a consultant in technology, aerospace, and defense markets.
Joe is an elected fellow in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and the National Academy of Public Administration. During his career with the U.S. Navy, Joe received the James H. Doolittle award in recognition of outstanding engineering achievement in aerospace. He is often quoted as an expert in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Aviation Week & Space Technology.
Most recent of Joe’s contributions to government and commercial sectors include participation in the Congressionally directed “Space Force” study and the NDAA Section 809 Commission on Acquisition Streamlining. Joe has chaired NASAs Aerospace Safety and Advisory Panel for almost 13 years and was involved in the development of multiple commercial space companies as part of that engagement.
From 2003 through 2013, he was Business Unit President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer at iRobot Corp. He came to iRobot from a career in the U.S. Navy where his last assignment was as the three-star Commander of the Naval Air Systems Command. At NAVAIR, he was responsible for contracting, research, development, test and evaluation,
engineering, and logistics for naval aircraft, unmanned systems, air launched weapons, electronic warfare, as well as tactical and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance sensors.
Joe was the Navy’s senior, uniformed acquisition/procurement official. His naval career included positions as naval aviation’s chief engineer, Commander of the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, and F/A-18 program manager. Earlier in his career, he served as the Navy’s chief test pilot and as an operational naval aviator.
Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in Finance from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
